Iran To The Forty-Fifth Degree

It was during the summer 2013 that I received a mysterious letter in the mail. Judging off of the design of it I knew it was something from the government. Opening the letter I would soon find out the source that was trying to reach me. Thanks to the fact that I was my mother's oldest child the Selective Service did they're lottery and my name was picked.

Although our military was fighting terrorism in two countries (Iraq and Afghanistan) the U.S. was not trying to be the world's police department. It was at this time where than president Barack Obama sent troops into Syria for the mere purpose of aiding rebel forces. Knowing the administration that we were under at this time made me feel safe and sound (to some extent). As long as Obama's team made the right moves and choices our nation would've never made new enemies (despite multiple homegrown threats that we as a nation were facing).

The twenty-ninth of August will come in a flash and I would be starting college. Echoes of war never sounded to the fullest (and I thank God for it).

Currently, we have a president that does not think twice before he gets into fights with nations that are "considered" national security threats. Obviously it has been clear that since the deal that Obama did with Iran Trump has been tempted (the same goes for his supporters/ and those who think like him). Since the Michael Flynn days this administration has been eyeing Iran and it's "actions." Watching the ongoing drama series we call the news this script keeps on going (until the wheels fall off). Let's just hope that sanctions will be the weapon of choice.

While writing about the topics of service and responsibility I think of no other than the late Muhammad Ali during the height of the war in Vietnam. Proudly I will take the same stance that he took in regards as to whether I'll go and fight a war on foreign soil. My answer will simply be no. I will not go to war for a nation that has a war going on within it's own borders. Being a black man living in the United States of America I eat, sleep, and breathe knowing that I'm the government's biggest target. As long as you spend more money on defense than on education I will not go to war. As long as you treat asylum seekers like animals I will not go to war. As long as police officers aren't trained in the right manners of engagement I will not go to war. As long as all citizens are not treated equally and fairly I will not go to war.
